The idiom “the horse’s mouth” or usually “straight from the horse’s mouth”. This is when you hear something directly from the source of information. You’re not hearing it through somebody else, you’re hearing it directly from them.
So, for example, if the media are telling you a story about a politician. Then you’re not getting it from the horse’s mouth, whereas if you heard that story directly from the politician, you are hearing it from the horse’s mouth.
